DAY 1: SOVERATO
Soverato lies on the edge of the Ionian Sea in the heart of the Gulf of Squillace.
Welcome drinks will be served in this town that spreads over a small area of 7.7 sq km!
You will have a free time, but we will be there to give you suggestions (Hint - The botanical garden of Soverato is a beauty).
We continue our journey to explore the spectacular views along the Ionian Sea stopping at the coastal towns of Pietragrande and Caminia.
For tasting the finest cheeses of the region, we continue to Caseificio Macri in Satriano. Fiordilatte, Ricotta, Provola Scamorza affumicata, Caciocavallo and Caciotta - get to know your cheeses!
Serra San Bruno is a charming town of Calabria. The town was founded by Bruno of Cologne of the Carthusian order in the 11th century.
We will tour the monastery together and give you free time to walk among the enormous oak and chestnut trees.
A cooking class and lunch has been arranged for you in a local farm house. The locals will be waiting to welcome you.
Today we visit the Ceraudo winery in Strongoli to taste the fine wines of the Calabria region including Ciro, a DOC wine accompanied by tasting of local cheeses and olive oil.
Afterwards we are taking you for a ride - and not any ride, but a tractor tour of the vineyard.
We also visit the Florence Abbey in the medieval town of San Giovanni in Fiore, built by the Calabrian monk Joachim of Fiore in 12th century!
Cosenza was once referred to as the Athens of Italy. Our tour guide will take us through the cultural past of this city.
In the afternoon we transfer to the seaside resort town - Amantea, where we will visit the Byzantine castle built in 839.
Later we will visit a pastry factory in Belmonte Calabro and enjoy tasting of dried figs.
On our sixth day we make our way to Sila National Park, Italy’s oldest National Park. We explore the three beautiful lakes of Sila National Park. Includes a full day guided visit of Centro Cupone with its naturalistic paths, geologic garden and museum on the lake Cecita and continue to Lake Arvo and Lake Ampollino with their walking routes, exciting landscapes, spectacular plants and a wide variety of wildlife.
On day 7, we depart for Rossano to visit the famous Amarelli liquorice museum and tasting of the delicious product. Then we continue for the visit of the Diocesano museum (guide included in the entrance) that hosts the magnificent Codex Purpureus. Lunch is in a local restaurant. In the afternoon we visit the archeological Museum of Sibari, known to be off the beaten path but quite worth the visit. We finish the day in our accommodation at BV Borgo del Principe Hotel at Zambrone.
DAY 8: PIZZO – TROPEA
Scilla is a fishing village, which specialises in catching swordfish (it. pesce spada).
Lunch will be organised at Casato in Scilla, overlooking the beautiful Aeolian Islands (that’s what we call ‘a lunch with a view’).
In the afternoon we visit the famous Bronzes of Riace at the National Museum with a stroll (it. passeggiata) along the promenade described as “the most beautiful kilometer of Italy”! Later we head to Bergamot plantation to learn why the best bergamot comes from Calabria and hear about the important role it plays in the cosmetic industry.
All good things come to an end! Final lunch of this trip will be in a local restaurant in Reggio Calabria. After saying our goodbye to Italian food, our tour concludes with a transfer to Reggio Calabria Airport.
