DAY 1 - Monday, 1 June: Brindisi

Look for the Favotto Tours sign when you arrive at Brindisi Papola Casale Airport. Your driver will escort you by air-conditioned van to your hotel for welcome drinks. Take time to explore Lecce. Dinner will be at the hotel around 8:00pm.

DAY 2 - Tuesday, 2 June: Lecce - Galatina - Wine Tasting - Gallipoli

 

Today we enjoy a leisurely guided walking tour of Lecce, reffered to as the Florence of the South as we visit the magnificent artwork of the Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta, Santa Croce, Palazzo dei Celestini, Palazzo Adorno, Piazza Sant’Oronzo, and the Roman Amphitheatre.

Our guide will let you in on the secrets of Lecce including the tasting of expresso coffee with almond milk, and of course no visit to Lecce is complete without tasting the pasticciotto.

We will visit the traditional Paper Mache Museum to study this traditional art form. We continue to Galatina for wine tasting and lunch at Masseria Appide.

After lunch will we visit the medieval village in Gallipoli, located on a small island connected to the mainland by an old bridge.

The evening will be free time in Lecce.

DAY 3 – Wednesday, 3 June: Santa Maria di Leuca - Otranto

Santa Maria di Leuca sits at the southernmost tip of the Salento Peninsula.
According to the Romans this is the place where the Adriatic meets the Mediterranean (Ionian Sea).

In the morning we take a boat ride to explore the karst caves of Santa Maria di Leuca. We will visit the Levante caves on the Adriatic Sea and Ponente Caves on the Ionian Sea. For lunch we head to Otranto, ristorante Vecchia Otranto.

After lunch we meet our guide as we explore this UNESCO town included in the Borgi piu belli d’Italia. We visit the skull Cathedral with its well-preserved mosaic floors and the Aragon Castle before returning to Lecce.

Free evening in Lecce.

DAY 4 – Thursday, 4 June: Martina Franca - Cooking Class - Olive oil
tasting

In the morning we experience Olive oil tasting at L’Acropoli di Puglia, a family run operation including a tour of the olive oil making facility.

We continue with a guided tour of Martina Franca before we head out to meet with our very own cooking Nonna, Anna Maria Basile. Before the meal starts we will shop at the local market for our ingredients and cook our 3 course meal.

You will have a free evening in Martina Franca before returning to the hotel.

DAY 5 – Friday, 5 June: Locorotondo - Cisternino - Grottaglie - Taranto

Today we have a guided tour of Locorotondo followed by lunch in Cisternino. In Cisternino you will taste bombette, a specialty prepared by the local butchers. Bombette are barbequed meat fillets, filled with a variety of fillings including mince, ham, and cheese.
After lunch we will visit Grottaglie ,famous for making beautiful handmade ceramics.

Our final stop will be in Taranto, the last stronghold of the Magna Grecia, before the Roman invasion.

We return to the hotel for dinner.

DAY 6 - Saturday 6 June: Alberobello - Ostuni - Polignano a Mare - Monopoli

 

Today we head to the famed Trulli of Alberobello followed by lunch and guided tour of Ostuni. In the afternoon we visit Pastificio Cardone in Fasano to learn about traditional pasta making.

Each year Polignano a Mare hosts the Red Bull cliff diving series where
athletes enter the platform of a private house before diving off the towering cliffs into the sea. You will explore the cliffs and walk down to the most beautiful swimming beach of all Puglia then Monopoli later in the evening. You will have free time in Monopoli.

We return to the hotel later in the evening.

DAY 7 – Sunday, 7 June: Altamurra - Matera

8:00am departure for Altamura located in the Alta Murgia National Park, to experience traditional bread making in the oldest bakery in town, Forno Santa Chiara.

We continue to Matera, which until the 1950’s has been in continuous occupation since prehistoric times. Matera is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lunch will be at Baccanti. Free time in Bari.

DAY 8 – Monday, 8 June: Castel del Monte - Andria

 

Today we visit Castel del Monte, a UNESCO world heritage site. Built by Emperor Frederick II in the 13th century, the castle lies on the hill of the Murgia National Park.

After visiting the castle, we will learn about the typical dairy products in the town of Andria. Andria is famous in the whole of Italy for its cheese products including mozzarella, ricotta, and burrata.

Free time in Bari.

DAY 9 – Tuesday, 9 June: Trani - Barletta - Molfetta

Today we have a guided tour of Trani known as the “Pearl of Puglia”. We continue to the medieval town of Barletta to visit the Castello Svevo, and then walk along the Lungomare Pietro Mennea prior to lunch at Al Vecchio Forno.

In the afternoon we visit Molfetta. Free time in Bari.

DAY 10 – Wednesday, 10 June: Bari

After breakfast we have a guided tour of Bari including the making of traditional pasta orecchiette.

The final lunch will be at Osteria delle Travi. There will be time to pick up some
last minute shopping at the outlets before transfer to Bari International Airport Karol
Wojtyla.
